HVAC Design Questions

The following is a list of questions whose answers will assist us in providing an accurate ACCA Manual J heat loss/gain calculation for your building. Only answer the questions that pertain to your project.

Is your project a new home, new addition, existing home with a new system, existing home with equipment replacement, or other?
   
Please provide a dimensioned floor plan with room sizes and ceiling heights and window, door and skylight locations. If a professional floor plan (blueprint) isn't available, a hand drawn plan is acceptable with room dimensions accurate within 3".
   
What are the size, type and quality of the windows, doors and skylights?
   
What direction does the front door face? Is there any natural shading?
   
How many stories (levels) are in the building (include basement and/or crawl space)? Is each story going to be conditioned?
   
Is the building built on a concrete slab (no basement or crawl space)? Is there insulation at the sides or below the slab?
   
What is the construction of the buildings walls, ceiling and floor?
   
What are the R-factors (or insulation type and thickness) of the walls, ceiling and floor?
   
Is your new system forced hot air, forced hot air with cooling, cooling only, hot water heat, radiant heat, or other?
   
Will your home require more than one system? (ex. A system for the 1 st floor and a system for the 2 nd floor) Would you like to zone one system?
   
Where do you anticipate locating your furnace or air handler?
   
Are there any major obstacles in the way of equipment, ducts, etc.?
   
If this is a "do it yourself" project, what type of ductwork would you prefer to use?
   
Can you purchase your equipment, accessories and ductwork locally?
   
What is typically the hottest and coldest days of the year where you live?
   
How soon will you need your design completed?
   
Too much information is not enough; can you offer any other details about your building?
